Do I Need An Agent?

Having an agent guarentees I will get work - True/False
FALSE - an agent can only help to increase your access to opportunities - nothing is guarenteed.

It doesn't matter if my work is known in my hometown - True/False
FALSE - a home audience base is a very important part of successful touring.

Once I have an agent I can sit back and let them take care of my career - True/False
FALSE - you and your agent are a team that works together - nobody should care more about your career than YOU.

We still haven't answered the original question and and it's three questions later! - True/False
TRUE - This is because deciding whether or not you wish to have a agent is an entirely personal choice.

Another consideration is having an agent to remember that you must put in just as much work on your career as your agent does - in fact, more. You will be expected to help yourself, to keep in touch frequently with your agent, and to come up with ideas and suggestions about marketing yourself. In addition, you must cultivate you rown personal contacts - if you went to dance school with someone who now has a company, get in touch with them! Keep up your personal contacts - they will probably come in handy some day. Also, “see and be seen” - be a visible part of the industry - go to others’ performances, openings and parties - you never know who you will meet that could potentially book you.
