A bio means biographical information. Your bio states who you are, what your accomplishments are and general information you would like the public and/or media to know about your artistic career. Your bio is a narrative outline, not a categorical listing, of your major achievements, training background, past performances and awards. It can be written in a friendly, conversational tone, avoiding the hype of the promotional writing style.
Have two! A brief bio of fifty to seventy-five words is perfect for promotion kits, performance programmes, lobby displays and media interviews. A detailed bio of 150-200 words is more appropriate for funding applications or if the media is doing extensive coverage on an artist.
Keep it up-to-date! Your bio should always be available for distribution upon request. The information must be accurate.
Check the spelling! Make sure all names, locations, venues are spelled correctly.
TIP!
- Read other artists' bios in programmes. Decide on the style you like. Use that format.
