What Do I Need To Know About Immigration And Crossing Borders?

If you would like a foreign artist to come to work with you in Canada, or if you are going to work temporarily in another country, various permits or visas may be required. Begin research into this area early in your project.

Visa applications can take weeks to process and you risk being refused permission to enter the country without them.

Canadians wishing to work in the USA:
Contact U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, Buffalo Office: 716-551-4741 extension 4101 fields questions from Canadians from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Canadians wishing to employ a foreign artist in Canada:
You may have to make a request for a Foreign Worker to Human Resource Development Canada/HRDC. Speak with a Foreign Worker Recruitment Counselor: 416-952-1201. HRDC may require concurrence (permission) from Canadian Actors' Equity Association or other Canadian unions/associations before approving your application: 416-867-9165. Additional information sources for immigration procedures are foreign embassies and consulates.
