1990's
Taking A Risk On Independents - Bill Kimball:

Megan Andrews

American by birth, Bill Kimball came to Canada in 1975 and completed a degree in Cultural Studies at Trent University, Peterborough. His first foray into theatre was as production manager with the Theatre Trent. He further wet his feet running the performance programme at the Peterborough theatre/gallery, Artspace.

While with Artspace, Kimball was part of the CanDance network of Presenters at its founding in the early 1980s.The network is now under the tenacious leadership of dance presenter and promoter Mimi Beck, CanDance's National Spokeperson. In 1994 when Artspace dropped its theatre component, Kimball founded Peterborough New Dance to meet the community's demand for a dedicated dance presenter.

Kimball cites the open-minded audiences in Peterborough as an inspiration to continue his work. Dedicated to the development of a larger cultural context, his vision extends beyond his home city with a new series, Dancing Across Ontario.

Kimball believes in the importance of sharing the public energy generated by the live performance experience. Sincerely committed to bringing this experience to the community, he says his greatest challenge is "trying to find enough opportunities for all the work I want to show."
