Yvonne Ng dances in the space between body and soul, where her artistry merges with the roles she inhabits. She gives herself completely to the moment, and takes her responsibility on stage very seriously.
“When you’re performing, “ says Ng, “you bring much more to it than just going through the moves. You carry the story. In doing that, you challenge – and then develop – your artistry.” But you need the audience. “What you’re feeling inside matters, and ultimately you want to share that with people, “she says. “That’s really exciting and very, very special.”
Yvonne Ng founded princess productions in 1995 to consolidate her creative activities. The initial project of the company was Trace Elements, presented by DanceWorks Mainstage Series, at the du Maurier Theatre Centre in Toronto. The program comprised the work of recognized choreographers such as José Navas, Maxine Heppner, Tama Soble, and Kim Frank.
Ng’s own choreography includes Garam Shift, which premiered to critical acclaim at the du Maurier Theatre, Harbourfront, Toronto, in 2001, Brocaded Clouds: a love story (‘99), and Blue Jade (‘98) which she has shown across Canada and in Australia and Singapore.
princess productions premiered three dancefilms at the Moving Pictures Festival of Dance on Film and Video in Toronto. Bo Mon 7 Pagolac: The Road to Halifax was co-directed with Nick de Pencier, Susan Lee and Pam Johnson - documenting their 1992 tour of Eastern Canada. Man from Glad and Into a Dinosaur were choreographed and produced by Ng and co-directed with de Pencier.
That experience has given Ng a perspective of Canada that is shared by many Canadians, and one that translates effectively to worldwide audiences.
As a result, princess productions has established an international touring repertoire comprised of an ever-growing number of commissions and Ng’s own choreography.
