Sasha Ivanochko

Sasha Ivanochko is a dancer, teacher and choreographer. An intense and intuitive performer, she has charmed audiences and garnered critical acclaim with her explosive physicality and dramatic presence.

Since completing her dance training at the School of the Toronto Dance Theatre in 1991, Ivanochko has performed with the Judith Marcuse Dance Company and many independents including Peggy Baker, Bill Coleman, Laurence Lemieux, Denise Fujiwara, David Earle, Michael Trent, and Tedd Robinson. In August of 1999, Ivanochko traveled to Tokyo, Japan and starred in Toru Shimizaki’s full-evening length piece “Willful Wind” at the Globe Theatre. On many occasions throughout her career she has danced with multi-media artist Peter Chin and in 1997 was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award for her outstanding performance in Chin’s “Pierce”. A performer with Toronto Dance Theatre for nine seasons, Ivanochko created and performed many major roles in the company’s repertoire and, in her final years with the company, worked as assistant to Artistic Director Christopher House.

In addition to her performing activities, she is on faculty at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre and considers teaching there one of the most satisfying aspects of her career. She has given master classes across Canada and has also enjoyed working with students at Concordia, Ryerson and York Universities, The National Ballet School, Breaking Ground Summer School, The Teachers’ Collective, Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault, LADMMI and Series 8:08 Alternative Technique Classes.

As a choreographer, Miss Ivanochko’s works have been presented by the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, the Canada Dance Festival, Spring Rites, Dusk Dances, Ryerson University, Toronto Dance Theatre, Dancing on the Edge Festival and DanceOntario’s 2004 DanceWeekend. In the fall of 2002, her critically acclaimed duet, “The King and Queen of Ruins” toured to across Canada as part of a CanDance exchange called Danse tout-terrain. In March 2003, DanceWorks presented Miss Ivanochko at the Du Maurier Theatre for her first solo show.
