Sarah Chase Dance Stories

"I have always been a storyteller and have a habit of constantly weaving the world around me into the fabric of story. From those stories spring the creative content and context of my work." - Sarah Chase

Sarah Chase is a Toronto-based, Canadian independent dancer and choreographer who has recently gained wide international acclaim. In the last few years, Sarah has been working increasingly outside of Toronto as a solo dance artist presenting her own work on tour across Europe. She also performs in Europe with Montreal-based Benôit Lachambre's Dance par B. Lieux, for Belgian choreographer Alexander Baervoets and German choreographer Raimund Hoghe.

Her work has been presented at the Holland Dance Festival; Klapstuk Festival (Belgium); Salzburg Szene Festival (Austria); Pumpenhaus (Germany); Konfrontace Festival in Prague; KaaiTheater (Belgium); Theater der Welt (Germany) and in Venice, Italy; Bergen, Norway and Hanover, Germany. In Canada, her own choreography has been presented at the Canada Dance Festival, Dancers for Life, DanceWorks, Tangente, Festival International du Nouvelle Danse (Montreal).

She has worked with numerous Canadian choreographers, including Peggy Baker, Claudia Moore, Michelle Silagy, Bill James and Benôit Lachambre, as well as with the dance companies Danse Partout in Québec City and Karen Jamieson in Vancouver. In January 2000, she performed in the award winning theatre production, Building Jerusalem.

In December 2002 she performed a version of Portraits at the KaaiTheatre in Brussels. Up coming projects include performances of Portraits at the NAC in Ottawa, the Musée D'Art Contemporain Montréal, and a continuation of the project in Paris sponsored by the Cartier Foundation

Sarah has trained with Peggy Baker, Pat Fraser, Pat Miner and the Teacher's Collective (Toronto), Joan Skinner, Stephanie Skura, Irene Dowd, Samuel Wuersten, Christine Wright and at the Cunningham School (New York, USA) and the School of the Toronto Dance Theatre (Toronto, Canada).



Sarah Chase's productions are available for touring.
