Gerry Trentham is the founder and Artistic Director of pounds per square inch performance, a company dedicated to fostering environments that encourage and enhance artistic endeavor.

The organization has received international recognition (The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, New York’s Dance Spirit Magazine, The Dance Current) for its innovative event Season in a Day which brings together over 50 artists of varied disciplines into a collaborative environment. Over its nine year history the company has assisted in the creation and production of over 15 works of contemporary performing artists including international presentation.

Alberta born Gerry Trentham is an artist and educator. His major performance work integrates live dance, theatre and music with video design. Mr. Trentham’s writing, choreography and direction has developed to include the creation of over 25 original works for the stage including his epic work Cathedral, which was listed among the top ten new works of 1998 in both Toronto’s Globe and Mail and Now Magazine. His most recent work Autobiography: Chapters One through Five, an international multi media collaboration, was produced at Toronto’s prestigious Premiere Dance Theatre and received national critical acclaim.

His work has been said to open moments. Often the works evolve from a memory, sensation or feeling that arises from a moment of epiphany. He then takes this moment and explores the space with in it, discovering its potential for movement, music, design and story. He has created work on companies such as Dancemakers, Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre and Buffalo Contemporary Dancers.

Mr. Trentham has taught at York University in both graduate and undergraduate theatre programs, been an Artist in Residence at The University of Alberta and Grant Mac Ewan College and is presently an Assistant Professor in the Performing Arts Department at SUNY Buffalo State where his is Head of Voice and Movement.
