Chi Ping Dance Group

Chi-Ping Dance Group is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 by Artistic Director Chi Ping Lau. Chi-Ping dancers have been involved in numerous multicultural festivals and governmental ceremonies in Canada and aboard.


Ms. Lau, a choreographer, dancer and dance educator, graduated from Laban Center, University of London, and studied Chinese dance under the renowned professional dance artist, Mr Sai-Fun Ng. In addition to this she studied ballet and National folk dances under Mr Stephen Kwok and Ms Pearl Chan.


While in Hong Kong, Ms Lau taught dance instructors, and instructed in dance programs at the Universities. She participated in the special training workshops for overseas Chinese dance teachers in Beijing held by Ministry of Cultural Dept of China in 1993.


Chi-Ping elite dancers represented Canada in the International Folklore Festival in Mexico in August 2000. They were also selected to participate in the Root-Seeking Summer Camp 2002 by the Foreign Affairs Department of China in Beijing.


In various competitions, these dancers have received gold medals. The Group has also hosted numerous successful Gala Shows and Fund-raising events for other charitable organizations, and has been cited as the Group of the Year 2000 by the City of Toronto.


Ms Lau has been presented with the award of Outstanding Achievement by the Chinese Community Centre in 1986. In 1992, she received an award of recognition from the City of Scarborough for promoting dancing in the community. In 1997, she was awarded the "Civic Award of Merit” from the City of Scarborough for accomplishment in the dance field of Cultural Achievement & Community Activity.

Chi-Ping elite dancers represented Canada in the International Folklore

the Root-Seeking Summer Camp 2002 by the Foreign Affairs Department of China in Beijing. In 2004 summer, they have been invited to perform in Macau, Hong Kong, Zhongshan, China and received excellent comments.
