The *Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA)*
presents
a celebration of the 2007-2008 theatre, dance and opera season on
*Monday, September 24, 2007* at *Yonge-Dundas Square* from *12noon – 2:00pm*.
“TAPA is thrilled to be launching the theatre, dance and opera season for the third year in a row at Yonge-Dundas Square with *Kaleidoscope*. This annual celebration is fast becoming one of our signature events helping to promote the performing arts directly to the public. We have more companies participating in the launch, more talent on stage, and some great announcements to be made,” said *Jacoba Knaapen*, Executive Director.
The event kicks off at 12noon and includes guest speakers *Celia Smith*, TAPA Board President, who will announce *TD Financial Group* as the title sponsor to TAPA’s program the *citySPECIAL*, which offers at-risk youth and communities free tickets to select performing arts shows in Toronto. Additional guest speakers include *City Councilor Kyle Rae* as well as *Robyn Campbell* from the Canada Council for the Arts, who will reveal the *Dance Umbrella of Ontario*’s new *Ontario Dance Passport*. This rewards program will give Ontario audiences an opportunity to win prizes while attending their favorite dance shows - and an opportunity to learn about the rich diversity of dance in Ontario.
Over 30 performing arts companies, representing the diversity of the theatre, dance and opera industry in Toronto, will be at Yonge-Dundas Square providing the public with information on their upcoming seasons. *FREE* performances on the stage will include the exceptional Aboriginal theatre troupe *The Turtle Gals*, Dora Award nominated playwright, director and actor *Erika Batdorf*, a movement piece inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet performed by *Why Not? Theatre*, and a performance by mesmerizing dancer *Piotr Biernat*.
TAPA will also be launching four new programs at Kaleidoscope. The 07/08 season unveils some unbeatable new discount theatre packages as part of the *5 Star Experience* program, a component of the *Go Live Toronto* city-wide arts marketing campaign. In addition, TAPA officially launches the redesign of the digital hub to Go Live Toronto, *goliveto.ca*, Toronto’s most comprehensive listing of theatre, dance and opera shows online. An exciting feature of the new website is the *Go Live Toronto Podcast*, a weekly podcast that gives listeners a chance to find out what’s playing and what’s hot around Toronto that week. And lastly, TAPA will introduce a new *T.O.TIX Weekly Ticket Giveaway* contest. Everyone who signs up to receive the T.O.TIX Daily E-Bulletin will automatically be eligible to win a pair of free tickets that will be drawn every week to various shows playing around Toronto.
