with Corpus Dance Projects
Harbourfront Centre Theatre,
231 Queens Quay West
May 4-6, 2006, 8 pm

$25 General Admission $16 students
Box Office: 416-973-4000

A new full-length duet by Corpus’ charming twosome, Sylvie Bouchard and David Danzon. Tragic denouements or happy endings emerge from classic romantic tales inspired by Adam and Eve, Romeo and Juliet, Bonnie and Clyde, or Barbie and Ken. Longtime collaborator Peter Mundinger (a close artistic partner on Nuit blanche and Bridge of Sighs) will compose the music. CORPUS’ unique and stylish dance concepts are both artistic and entertaining weaving modern dance with the theatre of the absurd. Anticipate a delightful and memorable evening from a group  known for creating “layers of complex subtext” (Globe & Mail) and “…irresistibly ingenious charm” (Michael Crabb, National Post)

Sarah Chase Masterclass
May 21, 2006
Noon - 6 pm at the Pia Bauman Studios
6 Noble Street Cost: $60

CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED!!
To register, call 416-504-6429 x 42
or e-mail Nina Kalynowysh at duo@danceumbrella.net

To ensure you place in the class, full payment must be received in the DUO office by Wednesday, May 17, 2006.

Sarah Chase will be teaching a masterclass in different techniques of combining storytelling and movement.

The class will begin with an extensive warm-up, designed particularly to enable to participants to tap into the unique co-ordination necessary to successfully combine spoken word and movement.

The class will explore how two lines of concentration - the body and the mind - can weave together in random patterns, creating chords of meaning. The warm-up exercises centre on cross-patterning exercises that Sarah has created or adapted from other sources; the aim of these exercises is to get both sides of the brain bright and alert as the body moves and are very specifically focused on integrating the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

Other parts of the class will concentrate on biography and techniques Sarah has developed to stimulate memory and to find patterns and symbols embedded in biographical stories.

The course will give the participants new ways to view their own creative work and will provide practical techniques on how words and movement can cross-pollinate to create unexpected and rich material.

The class is open to experienced dancers, actors and writers. Experience in dance/movement is helpful but not essential.

Sarah Cahse is an internationally renowned dancer/choreographer and teacher. She has been teaching modern dance technique classes since 1991. She studied for a year with Irene Dowd in New York and has taught aspects of the Dowd work to students in Amsterdam and in Arnem at the School for New Dance Development. For several years she taught at the Teacher's Collective, and as a guest teacher at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre. She has studied Skinner releasing technique since 1993 and in 1995 she received her teacher's certification from Joan Skinner. Since then she has taught this work in Leuven, Belgium at Klapstuk, in Salzburg for the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, for Ballet Met in Ohio and has taught many three-day intensives here in Toronto. She uses the Skinner Releasing work as part of her daily practice and is intimately connected to its application to her dance life.

In the last five years she has begun teaching workshops in story telling/movement and is eveloping an extensive pedagogy in relation to her unique performance style that she calls “dancestory”.

Sarah taught dance and story telling in Peggy Baker's intensive held at the NBS in August of 2005. That intensive culminated with the studio performances of The Passenger and The Disappearance of Right and Left. Since October of 2005, she has been involved in the mentoring program of Main Dance, working with student Lyndsay Alford, creating a solo for her titled Just to carry yourself back to me unspoiled. This was performed April 20 and 21 at the Roundhouse in Vancouver, and will represent Main Dance at the Canada Dance Festival in June. Sarah has created the duet A certain braided history with Andrea Nann that was performed at the Jack Shadbolt Center in Burnaby, B.C. on May 14 and will be part of The Whole Shebang ’06 in Toronto at the Premiere Dance Theatre May 18,19,20, and on Hornby in August at the Hornby Island Festival. Upcoming projects include a tour of The Passenger to Munich as well as Toronto, Ottawa, Lethbridge and Peterborough; and a full evening commission for Montreal Danse to preimere in Spring 2008.
