Two World Premieres and One Toronto Premiere on an evening of works that plumb the depths of imperfection: genetic, psychological, imaginary, universal. Collaborators include composer John McLean, double bassist Michael-Owen Liston, and dancers Jennifer Dallas and Lucy Rupert. Lucy Rupert and Matthew Romantini have created Happy Endings are Still Endings, a duet for a couple of strange and imperfect souls who meet on an elevator. And guest artist Kyle Abraham, of Abraham in Motion based in New York City brings his acclaimed and gorgeous solo Inventing Pookie Jenkins for a Toronto debut. Jason Hand collaborates with innovative and simple lighting design to highlight these compelling performers. A must-see!

UPRISING A BALLET DRAMATIZING EVENTS
OF THE WARSAW GHETTO
Excerpts performed by Ballet Espressivo

"Witness the battle between light and dark in this heart-wrenching ballet that tells the story of Mordecai Anielewicz, leader of the Jewish resistance fighters in the Warsaw Ghetto, how he led his guerrilla warriors and fought back against Nazi brutality at the cost of many lives and in the face of impossible odds. Stalked by the shadow of death at every turn, these warriors triumphed in spirit and inspired others. Uprising takes us into the world of human perversity and the highest heroism."

The Dance Umbrella of Ontario (DUO) is proud to present over several Toronto-based dance companies and dancers who will perform for FREE in Yonge-Dundas Square in celebration of International Dance Day. This event will celebrate dance by bringing fantastic Toronto artists together for a one of a kind performance. There will be stage performances, performances in the square with the audience, as well as interactive dance presentations.

Also, DUO will be announcing the Ontario Dance Passport grand prize winners, those who collect 50 stamps or more, will be celebrated at the annual International Dance Day festival in Yonge-Dundas Square. DUO set 50 stamps as the target in order to support and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canada Council for the Arts. There are a limited amount of prizes, so prizes will be awarded while quantities last.

The 26th annual International Dance Day is a UNESCO designated day for celebrating dance and dance artists. This year, International Dance Day is dedicated to children, and there will be lots for children to see at this one time event. We encourage all of Toronto to come out and join us in Dance Day festivities.

Dance Umbrella of Ontario (DUO) is a not-for-profit arts administration organization. DUO would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the George Cedric Metcalf Charitable Foundation for their generous support to dance animation activities.
