Executive Director

Unity uses hip hop to improve young peoples’ lives to create healthier communities in Canada. After more than 10 years of successful impact, Unity continues to inspire and engage youth through hip hop—Break Dancing, Graffiti Art, Spoken Word Poetry & Beat Boxing—by offering free programming in schools and community spaces to youth in underserved neighborhoods in Ontario and select communities across the country. Thanks to its committed staff and team of artist educators, Unity reaches over 40,000 youth each year through in-school Unity Days, after school programs, community programs and its annual festival, empowering youth to be role models and leaders in their communities.

With the upcoming departure of Unity’s founder and Executive Director (ED), the organization seeks an outstanding new leader with a strong understanding and appreciation of hip hop to take Unity to its next level of achievement in improving young peoples’ lives and mental health. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for the successful strategic leadership, team development and operations and financial management of the organization.

The new ED will be an authentic and collaborative leader who builds rapport quickly and has a bias for action. The ideal candidate is a visionary who establishes strong, productive relationships with staff, artists, community partners and a wide variety of stakeholders. Possessing humility, exceptional communication skills, along with strong business and financial acumen, the candidate sought will be inspired by the positive role hip hop can play in young people’s lives and attuned to Unity’s core values: Respect, Integrity, Passion, Community and Youth. Drawing on their substantive experience in empowering and leveraging the skills and talents of a dynamic team, the preferred candidate will strategically lead and ensure Unity’s ability to deliver on its vision and increase its impact.
