North Side Story Dance Competition (NSSDC), a new urban dance competition will light up the stage on July 29, 2017 at Ryerson Theatre in Toronto. NSSDC provides a platform for youth ages 15-29 to develop their artistry, creativity and passion for dance. Eight Ontario-based dance team have been selected to compete for the top three prize levels; first place ($2,000), second place ($500) and third place ($250). The teams must incorporate the competition’s theme, “Time” into their performances.

A unique feature of the competition, is the production support that each team will receive. Typically, urban dance competitions will provide teams with only 10-15 minutes of tech time to set staging and lighting, usually on the day of the competition. At NSSDC  each team will work directly with a production crew (Jnvuong Audio and Truss Productions) over multiple weeks to enhance the production quality of their performance. From lighting to staging to props, the production support will help the teams elevate their performances and bring their choreographic visions to life on stage.

The judging panel features some Toronto’s best hip hop and contemporary dance artists; Tori Mehaffey (ProArteDanza), Nigel Edwards (Lost is Found) and Paulo Santiago (International Choreographer).

1,200 spectators will have the opportunity to watch these talented dance crews give everything they’ve got to compete for the title. Guest performers include Simply Swagg Mini Militia, FOREAL Dance Company, Lost is Found, Stephanie Calderia and Zara Diniz.
