Dance Umbrella of Ontario is excited to co-present the feature documentary,  LA CHANA at the HOT DOCS FILM FESTIVAL opening Monday, May 1st, 2017 at Hart House, University of Toronto.

Antonia Santiago Amador, better known as La Chana, was a gypsy flamenco legend who mysteriously disappeared from the spotlight at the height of her career.

Through archival footage of La Chana’s many jaw-dropping television performances, director Lucija Stojevic’s IDFA Audience Award–winning debut is an invigorating portrait unravelling the story behind a feisty and energetic presence.

Now in her late 60s, more determined and empowered than ever, La Chana returns to the stage after a 23-year break for one last show.  As the Catalan pioneer reflects on both her storied career and what could have been, she finally reveals the secret behind her lengthly disappearance.

This is the 24th annual edition of HOT DOCS FESTIVAL, North America’s largest documentary festival which runs in Toronto from April 27 – May 7, 2017.
