Compañia Carmen Romero opens a new full-length work, Jacinto tonight at The Theatre Centre as part of its Dance Card Series.

Jacinto is a contemporary flamenco performance created by  Compañia founder and artistic director, Carmen Romero, who both choreographs and performs. Her artistic collaborators on Jacinto include: producer Soraya Peerbaye, guest choreographer Oscar Nieto, director and dramaturge Karin Randoja and musical director Benjamin Barrile.  The costume design is by Rita Benz ,with art direction by Vanessa Guillen and lighting by Michelle Ramsay.

Jacinto tells the story of a woman in search of catharsis as she grieves the loss of her father. Through letters, photographs and talismans, she unearths the mysteries of his life.

Jacinto examines the dark angels within us: the black crow inside one’s heart, the pain that is passed on from generation to generation. It can lie dormant within us, but it also wants to free us; it dances out the fear.

Fantastical, seductive, volatile and unnerving, this is a new solo dance-theatre work by one of Toronto’s and Canada’s most powerful flamenco artists.
